Order fulfillment settings FAQ

Can I enable weekend operations for both Prime and non-Prime products?

Yes, you can enable weekends as operational days for both Prime and non-Prime products. If you are not using Shipping Region Automation, turning on weekends as operational under General Fulfillment Settings will impact all of your products. If you want to limit it to Prime offers only, you will need to turn on Shipping Region Automation and then indicate your weekend order fulfillment preference for all offers or only Prime offers.

By default, the setting for both Saturday and Sunday operations is turned OFF. By turning ON this setting, these days will be counted towards the Expected Ship Date and Estimated Delivery Date. Please ensure you ship on time as this might impact your Late Shipment Rate.

The carrier that I use to ship products delivers on Saturdays for certain regions. Can this be reflected on the Promised Delivery Date shown to the customer?

Amazon will automatically set a Saturday or Sunday delivery promise if you have configured your shipping regions based on shipping services that deliver on Saturday or Sunday. As long as one shipping service delivers on Saturday or Sunday, Amazon may automatically adjust the delivery promise to reflect this. There is no additional action required of you. Buy Shipping will also show the shipping services that can deliver on a Saturday or Sunday.

Note: At this time, Amazon only supports Saturday delivery for the following shipping services - USPS Priority Mail, USPS Priority Mail Express, FedEx Home Delivery, UPS Ground, and Ontrac Ground. Additionally, we also support Sunday delivery for FedEx Home Delivery for a limited number of U.S. ZIP codes. If you are not using Shipping Region Automation, Saturday and Sunday will not be considered as delivery days.

How can order cut-off times be adjusted using the Order Fulfillment Settings?

If you are using Shipping Region Automation to define your delivery regions, order cut-off times can be adjusted by changing the last pick-up time for the shipping service. Once the last pick-up time is set for the shipping service, sellers can continue to adjust the cut-off time within a certain time window. You will be able to set the cut-off time for the whole week or by every day of the week.

If you are not using Shipping Region Automation, you will still be able to set order cut-off times for your products. However, you will lose the ability to set cut-off times by shipping service and day of the week. The cut-off time set under General Fulfillment Settings will be applied for all operational days (including weekends if enabled).

Note: Order cut-off times cannot be earlier than 2:00 p.m. local time (except for weekends) and must be at least 30 minutes before the carrier pick-up time.

What is the use of the last pick-up time for shipping service?

The last carrier pick-up time on the Order Fulfillment Settings acts as a mechanism for you to set more precise order cut-off times. You will not be able to set an order cut-off time for a shipping service that is later than the last pick-up time. While the pick-up time is not used for the calculation of the promised delivery date shown to customers, it is used during Buy Shipping to determine availability of the shipping service when you proceed to purchase a shipping label for the order. If your label purchase time is less than an hour before the last pick-up time for the shipping service, you may not see the shipping service available to you on Buy Shipping.

Note: Shipping label purchase ends one hour before the last pick-up time

What if I have multiple shipping services picking up from my warehouse on any given day?

We understand that there might be multiple shipping services picking up packages on a given day. For example, USPS and FedEx might have a pick-up time of 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. respectively. Configuring Order Fulfillment Settings (under Fulfillment Settings for Shipping Region Automation) accordingly will allow you to receive orders up to a cut-off time of 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. respectively, assuming the order cut-off time is set 30 minutes prior to carrier pick-up time. Please ensure that you have sufficient time between your order cut-off time and carrier pick-up time.

Can I disable a shipping service on Order Fulfillment Settings?

You cannot disable a shipping service on Order Fulfillment Settings except over the weekend. However, the configurations for a shipping service are only used if the shipping service is being used to define your shipping regions on shipping templates. Note that, if weekend operations have been turned on, you must have at least one shipping service selected that picks up on the weekend.

How does Amazon use order cut-off times when I am shipping from multiple warehouses?

If you have selected multiple shipping locations on your automated shipping templates, the promised delivery date will be automatically adjusted based on the customer location, time of day, and the time it takes for each shipping service to deliver to the customer location from each of the shipping locations. After evaluating all these factors, we will display the best delivery promise to the customer. The order cut-off time value is automatically adjusted for the time zone of each shipping location. This means that you may continue getting orders with an expected ship day for the same day until the time is past the order cut-off times of all your preferred shipping services.

Example: The customer is located in Seattle (ZIP code 98109). You have two shipping locations: Warehouse A (default shipping address) on the East Coast (ZIP code 22304) and Warehouse B (ZIP code 94016) and an order cut-off time of 2:00 p.m. local time (specific to the default shipping address, in this case EST). From each location, it takes two business days to reach the customer. This means that until 2:00 p.m. EST (or 11:00 a.m. PST), you will be able to fulfill orders to the customer from either shipping location. From 2:00 p.m. EST (11:00 a.m. PST) to 5:00 pm EST (2:00 p.m. PST), you will be able to fulfill orders to the customer from Warehouse B.

What happens if I have turned on Saturday as an operational day but the carrier does not pick-up or process the order on Saturday?

If you have turned on Saturday as an operating day, you are expected to ship on Saturday and ensure that the carrier picks up and scans on Saturday. If the carrier is unable to pick up and scan the package on Saturday, we advise you to turn off Saturday as an operational day as it may adversely impact your On-time Shipment Rate, resulting in a loss of Prime eligibility.

How can I activate weekend delivery promises?

Weekend delivery will be automatically activated when your delivery regions are set up with the eligible Shipping Services that deliver over the weekend. Weekend delivery promises will only be applicable for Premium Shipping orders and will only appear if the customer is located in a region served by these Shipping Services over the weekend. We will not be making a promise over the weekend if delivery regions for the products have been defined by you manually and not based on Shipping Region Automation.

Can I opt out of weekend delivery?

No. As long as your delivery regions have been set up based on Shipping Services that can deliver over the weekends to the customer location, Amazon will make a delivery promise of Saturday or Sunday. If delivery regions are configured using Shipping Services that do not deliver over the weekend, Amazon will not make a delivery promise over the weekend.

Is the customer-facing cut-off time the same as the one I set on Order Fulfillment Settings?

Customers will see a cut-off time one hour prior to the one you set to allow for order processing. For example, if you have set the cut-off time for Next Day shipping as 3:00 p.m., customers see the cut-off time as 2:00 p.m.

How does order cut-off time change the shipping requirements and delivery promises?

If an order is placed before your cut-off time you must ship the item the same day. However, if an order is placed after cut-off time, you can ship the item the next business day. If Saturday is enabled as an operating day, then orders received after cut-off time on Friday are expected to be shipped out by Saturday.
