Add order notes on your cart page
Note
If you use a free theme from Shopify, then you might be able to contact Shopify Support for help with this tutorial. It requires 15 minutes of design time. To learn more, refer to Support for themes.
You can use order notes to collect special instructions from customers about how to prepare and deliver an order. You can enable a text box for order notes on your cart page in any free Shopify theme.
Tip
Order notes, cart attributes, and line item properties are three separate tools with similar functionality. Order notes let you capture special instructions on how to prepare and deliver an order. Cart attributes are custom form fields that you can use to collect additional information from your customers on the cart page. Line item properties are used to record customization information about specific products in an order. Line item properties are specified directly on the product page.
Order notes are referred to as cart notes in some themes.
Adding order notes
Order notes can be enabled on the Cart page of your theme. Follow the steps below, or refer to your theme's documentation for more information about how to find this setting in your theme.
Note
If your screen is wider than 1600 pixels, then your customization and editing options appear on the right side of your screen. If your screen is smaller than 1600 pixels, then they appear on the left side.
Steps:
PC:
From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.
Open the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
Select Cart to load the template in the theme editor.
Click the Subtotal block.
Check Enable cart note.
Click Save.
iPhone：
From the Shopify app, tap Store.
In the Sales channels section, tap Online Store.
Tap Manage themes.
Find the theme that you want to edit, and then tap Customize.
Tap Templates.
Select Cart to load the template in the theme editor.
Click the Subtotal block.
Check Enable cart note.
Click Save.
Android：
From the Shopify app, tap Store.
In the Sales channels section, tap Online Store.
Tap Manage themes.
Find the theme that you want to edit, and then tap Customize.
Tap Templates.
Select Cart to load the template in the theme editor.
